About Us

A Short History of Troop 369

Troop 369 was chartered in the 1960’s.  For many years it was a thriving troop with a large number of scouts participating in activities much as we do today.  In the early 1990’s, the troop went through a series of events where adult leaders were difficult to find.  This led to the troop folding for a short time.

In 1994, a new, younger and more energetic group of adults gathered and seeing the need for their sons to be involved in Scouting, re-chartered and reactivated the troop.  We are happy to say that we have been continuous chartered for the last 25 years with prospects for many more.

Troop 369B meeting on Monday evenings from 7 PM to 8:15 PM.  Our Scout Hut (the Pollard UMC Merket Scout Center) is located at 3107 New Copeland Road, Tyler, Texas 79701.  The building is across the street from Pollard UMC church.  Just look for the Troop trailer out front.

We are now 44 scouts strong with boys coming from every part of the Tyler area.  We have kids from all over Tyler, Chapel Hill, Whitehouse, Bullard and Troup.  We have scouts from a number of middle schools and high schools in the area; Whitehouse High, Robert E. Lee, John Tyler, just to name a few of the high schools.
Split into 4 patrols, we have a good spread of scouts from age 11-12 (11), 13-14 (11), 15-16 (13) and age 17 (3).  So, we have a great age distribution for any young man to step into and feel comfortable with being with kids their age.
We also have 35 adult leaders that participate with our scouts in every activity.  Each adult is a volunteer.  We don’t get paid for what we do, rather we all recognize that our young people are our most precious commodity and we are interested in nurturing each scout to become the best they can be.

Speaking of our activities, we have something going on every week, every month, all year around.  Whether it is our weekly Monday evening meetings or our monthly campouts or touring interesting places or participating is special community events, we have something to keep everyone’s interest.

Troop 369G.  YES! We have a Troop 369G for girls!  We are extremely happy that our charter unit, Pollard United Methodist Church, chartered a new troop for our daughters as well.  Troop 369G meeting on Wednesday evenings at the Scout Hut and they have 6 girls and growing.  Since the troop is fairly new, they expect to grow during the coming years, for sure.

Venture Crew 369. We also have a Venturing Crew of older youth.  That is a Co-ed unit with teenagers from 14-21.  They also have a very active program.

AND, if that wasn’t enough, we also have a thriving Cub Scout Pack 369 that meets on Monday evenings over in the church gym.  Those kids range in age from 6 to 10.  Kendall Shuler is our Cubmaster for that unit.

So, no matter what age your young boy or girl may be, there is a Scouting program for them.  We invite you to come and look, ask questions, see you there is a good fit in one our units and join in on the fun!  Scouting makes a lasting and positive impression for a lifetime whether you are young or older.  For those that do get involved, try to have a good attitude and want to enjoy being a part of an excellent group of kids and adults, we invite YOU!
